Modern and comfortable

High-quality light walls and ventilation in Haarlem

Back to project index

Authentic features and modern comfort.

In Haarlem, we carried out a major upgrade of a building with a distinctive architectural identity. The challenge was to give the classic ‘shed roofs’ a modern sheeting that meets current insulation standards, without losing the characteristic abundance of natural light entering this type of building. Through the use of advanced snap-fit panels and integrated ventilation hatches, the building was transformed into a sustainable and healthy working environment.

The challenge

Large-scale insulation while maintaining natural light

With a total area of 250m² of translucent layers, thermal performance was paramount. Large glass or plastic surfaces are often the weakest link in a building’s insulation. The brief for the project in Haarlem was twofold: to achieve an extremely low U-value in order to minimise energy loss, while at the same time implementing a cleverly designed ventilation system that ensures a constant supply of fresh air, regardless of weather conditions.

The solution

The strength of 60mm snap-fit panels

To achieve this result, the project was carried out in two phases, with a focus on high quality components:

  • To ensure an optimal indoor climate, 11 hatches, including motors, were installed.

  • To prevent thermal bridges, approximately 350 metres of thermal break profiles were used.

  • 60mm snap-fit panels were chosen. The main advantage of this thickness is its impressive U-value of 0.74.

The result

A future-proof façade

The result in Haarlem is an aesthetically sleek façade that pays homage to the building’s historic form, while delivering the performance of a new-build development. Staff now enjoy a comfortable, draught-free environment and plenty of natural light, which boosts productivity and well-being. The system requires no maintenance, and thanks to the thermal break, condensation is a thing of the past.
